The owners presented with an interesting brief – to maximize sunlight, air and capture harbour views at the same time create a home conducive to the every day living needs of their growing family.
The two levels of the residence offer two distinctive zones. The open plan living and entertaining areas on the ground floor are held together by a central courtyard and a feature glazed stairwell. These elements are the key to flooding the floor with light and air to create a sense of endless space.
The first floor bedrooms are also linked to the feature glazed stairwell with an opening living area which opens out onto a terrace facing the street. Also capturing prime harbour views. Those views are further enhanced by access to a rooftop entertaining terrace via an external circular steel stairwell, which was brought into position by crane.
After rock excavation a huge basement provides for plenty of storage and garage space.
The structure is a simplistic arrangement of suspended concrete slabs and cavity brick walls with a steel framed roof system.
