Mt. Vernon

Our brief was to design and construct a tutor style residence that was comfortable and an entertaining pleasure.

The house has a footprint of 860sqm surrounded by trees and rural outlook to a north facing valley. The spine of this spectacular residence has a raked ceiling cladded with hardiplank and exposed ironbark trusses. This also forms part of the hand painted timber kitchen and dining room with a sandstone clad fireplace to the living room. The adjacent rumpus room can also access the rear courtyard through a number of 2.7m high merbeau French doors.

The bedroom wing has 4 bedrooms and bathrooms decorated with timber vanities and rustic tiles to complete the theme. The first floor attic has maximised ceiling space over the garage within the 35dgree roof pitch and leadlight dormer windows to allow light without compromising character.

Contrasting materials externally include 350 x 350mm recycled ironbark posts retrieved from a local Sydney wharf, herringbone face brick gable features, brick chimneys, solid sandstone window heads and sills to suit.

From the paved courtyard at the rear focus is drawn to the wood fire pizza oven whilst enjoying peace, privacy and a northern summer breeze.
